    The Medicare Cost Report and Uncompensated Care Reimbursement

    Program Overview

    Uncompensated care is a growing risk to institutions and this program covers implications of Medicare Uncompensated care reporting and the connections to Medicare cost reporting, revenue cycle and 501r issues. Learn how to leverage different sources of information to meet reporting and reimbursement needs related to uncompensated care cost. This course will explore strategies in reporting S-10, DSH data and Medicare Bad Debts for proper reporting and reimbursement of uncompensated care.  The program will explore the driving forces for Uncompensated Care cost reporting and reimbursement.

    Learning Objectives:  

    • Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:
    • Explain the regulatory/policy history and evolving legal framework surrounding Uncompensated Care reporting
    • Consider the implications of requirements for 501r reporting
    • Examine high-impact reimbursement areas of Uncompensated Care Cost reimbursement in the cost report
    • Explore the key drivers of Medicare reimbursement for Uncompensated Care 

     

    Speaker Information:

    Chad Krcil, Director, Crowe, LLP

    Chad Krcil is a Senior Manager with Crowe, LLP.  He has 25 years of national health care finance experience focused on regulatory reimbursement, revenue recovery and project management. He is also an active member of HFMA. Chad is a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional and holds the HFMA designation of Fellow of Healthcare Financial Management. Chad is currently serving as an officer of the HFMA Colorado Chapter as the President.  He has served the chapter in the roles of Certification chair, Board of Director, Annual Conference chair, Secretary and VP of Education.  He also presents Medicare reimbursement strategy courses on a national level for HFMA at courses throughout the year and at HFMA’s ANI.

     

    Scott Gunter, CPA, FHFMA,  Peakview Healthcare Solutions

    Scott is a CPA and a Principal at Peakview Healthcare Solutions. He was formerly with EKS&H, McGladrey (3 yrs), Centura Health (7 yrs) and Univ. of Colorado Hospital (7 years) in various financial positions. He is a former Colorado Chapter Board member (2003 – 2005), Chapter President (2006 – 2007), Newsletter chair (2008-2010) and the recipient of the HFMA Muncie Gold Award and HFMA Founders Medal of Honor Award.
