President's Report

Hello Colorado HFMA Chapter Members! It has been an honor to serve this past year as your president and to be a part of a great team of volunteers! I started the year with three goals in mind:

Being open to Change and Innovation

Focus on the members and their needs

Align our chapter with HFMA National Strategies

As everyone is facing challenges, such as budget cuts and time constraints, we knew it was important to redefine the educational events we present.  Colorado has geographical challenges with the mountains dividing the state and it is not easy to get everyone to one location easily.  With this challenge, and the focus on physician practices, we started half-day workshops focused on Physician Billing & Coding and provided these workshops free of charge in multiple locations around the state. Success! And we won a National award for the innovation! We continue to redefine several of our conferences and look to improve or enhance the way we deliver education to all members. Watch for our new and improved events by going to our website at Our website won a national award this year for the redesign! The innovation continues!

I began my HFMA journey15 years ago and the education and networking have been extremely rewarding to me personally. This organization has been like a family to me and when I needed help in my career, HFMA always came through. Membership value was another very important focus for the year and it was my hope that the rewards I felt would come back to all of you. We started the Five Star Service Excellence Promise in which we pledged working to earn your five-star ratings on surveys. We want our members to feel welcome, engaged, educated, and ensuring that we are providing a return on your investment. Check out the information on our website and give us your feedback! National sends out a yearly survey in October and we improved our member satisfaction rate to 85% that’s up 20% from last year! Thank you, Colorado, for giving us your feedback and helping keep our chapter strong!

The number of hours and dedication that our volunteer members contribute never ceases to amaze me.  This year we honored many of our members with their years of membership, special awards were given for volunteer hours of service to making the chapter run smoothly and then we gave out three awards to some special honorees:

Kay Hide Medal of Honor for her years of volunteering in so many aspects of our organization. It has been my honor to be working with her and she has been the one ensuring everyone has been receiving their awards, it was her turn to be recognized.  I had no idea the amount of time that took, I thought those awards just showed up!

Doug Dunbar- Volunteer of the Year!  I bet you’ve seen Doug at an event, working the registration desk faithfully, ensuring all attendees are registered with name badges and answering all questions, always with a smile.  Doug has contributed many hours on the Rural Road Show over the years and is willing to help in any aspect he can.

Business Partner of the Year went to Scott Raberge with Professional Finance Company! Scott has been with the chapter for many years, has been a faithful exhibitor, contributed his time to volunteering, and provides sponsorship dollars to ensure that we can bring quality education and service to our members.

I could continue with so many other great things the volunteers have done for the Colorado Chapter, but I know my space and time is limited. As I leave the office of president and turn the reins over to Chad Krcil, I am so excited for you all to experience his leadership and to see our chapter grow. I hope you get involved and join us on the journey! In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” Thank you for your support over the year and we’ll see you at the next HFMA event!
